Robert Redford and Jane Fonda are turning heads this week in Florence and Cañon City.
Crews for the Netflix movie “Our Souls at Night” filmed a softball game at Florence’s Wilcox Field on Monday. According to the Cañon City Daily Record, the region’s high school girls’ softball teams, the Florence Huskies and the Cañon City Tigers, rehearsed and shot scenes for the movie. The Tigers were transformed into the Holt Indians for the name of the fictitious Colorado town in which the movie is set.
“Filmmakers first approached the Florence-Penrose School District about filming the Florence softball team in September,” according to the Tuesday story in the Daily Record. “At the Sept. 12 school board meeting, superintendent Rhonda Roberts said the school district is viewing the whole thing as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and that she was excited that the Florence softball team would be getting the opportunity to be a ‘character’ in the movie.”
