As Hollywood’s less-than-smashing summer of 2017 drew to a close, studio executives were heard grumbling about the influence of Rotten Tomatoes, the review aggregate site that has been known to attract as many as 13.6 million unique visitors per month. Do early negative reviews spell doom for major releases? Do early positive reviews boost ticket sales? Moderator Robert Denerstein and his panelists will take a look at the Rotten Tomatoes phenomenon—exploring how, like Yelp, it may be impacting criticism itself while examining other factors that can put a damper on box-office revenues.
